The Project
A new approach to the home, from path to planting.
For this Buckingham property, Slate Building constructed a stamped concrete walkway that curves along the side of the house, built a line of stone masonry pillars faced with Eldorado Stone, and installed new landscaping along both sides of the path.
The work also included the electrical for the lanterns that sit on top of the pillars, so the walkway is lit in the evening.
Design & Execution
Path, stone and planting designed as one.
The walkway follows a gentle S-curve rather than a straight line. Its edges set the shape of the planting beds on either side, so the concrete, the mulched beds and the lawn meet in clean, flowing lines.
The stone pillars run along the lawn side of the path at regular intervals. They frame the walkway, mark the edge of the yard, and carry the lanterns that light the route after dark.

Stamped Concrete Walkway
A curved walkway with a natural stone texture.
The walkway is stamped with a large-format, stone-slab texture, giving the concrete the look of individual pavers while keeping a continuous, even surface underfoot.
Smooth, rounded edges follow the curve of the path along its full length, and the scored joints carry the stone pattern through each bend.

Stone Masonry Pillars
Eldorado Stone pillars with lantern tops.
Each pillar is faced with Eldorado Stone in a mix of sizes and tones, finished with a flat cap and topped with a post lantern.
Repeated along the walkway, the pillars give the path a clear rhythm and a finished, architectural edge against the open lawn.

Landscaping
New planting beds that follow the walkway.
New planting beds line both sides of the walkway, with shrubs and flowering plants set into fresh mulch. The beds widen and narrow with the curve of the path and finish in a crisp edge against the lawn.
River-rock borders and a large boulder accent are also part of the finished design, visible near the driveway end of the walkway.

Lighting & Electrical
Pillar lanterns that light the way.
Slate Building handled the electrical work for the lanterns on each pillar. In the evening, the lit lanterns mark the walkway from the driveway to the house.
